"Time is the most precious gift and asset that I have at this point in my my."  This is something that is hitting me in the face on a regular basis.  I feel busy.  Busy with my job as an elementary music teacher, busy as a mom of 4 almost grown children, wife of fellow educator.  Busy as a sister, as a daughter, as a. church parishioner.  Just BUSY. Not enough TIME.

And out of that "busyness" has come a real need for focus.  For peace. For direction.  For purpose.

And a sense of wanderlust.  A need for adventure and discovery.

After reading Two Steps Forward by Graem Simpson and Anne Buist, I became fascinated with the Camino de Santiago. This novel takes place on the Camino, and is a story of two people learning to trust themselves, and along the way, learn to love again.  Just another mushy romance novel.  But was  it? It certainly has illuminated a strong calling I feel.

To start off, perhaps I should explain what the Camino de Santiago is.  Faith has it (or perhaps a bit of legend and myth) that the relics of the Apostle Saint James the Greater are buried at the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela.  For hundred of years pilgrimages have been made by perhaps millions of folks in search of peace, reconciliation, penance, a sense of accomplishment, focus, purpose, and a thousand other reasons. Countless miles walked.  Innumerable prayers and devotions lifted up to God.  And I want to do this pilgrimage, too.  And it's a big dream.

This summer I started tracking my progress on a map of the Galician region of Spain, following the Frances Way of St. James. I started on June 15, 2019; the first day of my summer break as a teacher.
I attempted to walk every day, log those miles and track them on the map.  This "virtual" pilgrimage gave me goals, started to help me make a physical change in the fitness and endurance, and was a wonderful time of refreshment and reflection.

Today I just tallied
up the kilometers I have walked since June 15, and the grand total is 497.  To date, I have walked the distance from a hostel in Roncesvalles to Riego de Ambrós.  497 K or 308 miles.  I am about 75% of the way there.

This blog is going to document the final stages of this virtual walk.  I hope to spend TIME reflecting on the things that make me "me." On finding some balance and peace in my busy life.  Smell the cool, fall breezes and remember this dream that I have: to do a real-life pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela
